Within the context of different energy transition pathways for the city of St. Gallen, Switzerland, the Laboratory for Energy Conversion is conducting holistic assessments that account for different technological, economic, societal, and political drivers.

Also this year, the Energy Science Center came together at the SwissECS (Swiss Energy and Climate Summit). with over 800 decision makers of the energy sector. Joschka Fischer (Former German Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs and Vice-Chancellor) left the audience inspired and moved. In his talk he stressed the need of increasing our joint efforts for a successful energy transition. See presentation summaries, pictures, and videos of distinguished speakers.

A very intensive and memorable week has ended for the 164 participants of the ETH Week and its organisers.  Working in interdisciplinary groups of 8 to 9 students, the teams had to come up with their own problem statements and solution ideas that will contribute to a sustainable energy future. The Energy Science Center looks back to a succesful week and is very happy to have helped shape a large extent of the content of the programme on this years topic "Energy Matters".

The increasing number of high-power DC applications such as data centers or electric vehicle charging facilities demand for highly efficient and highly compact Medium-Voltage (MV) connected DC power supplies. Novel 10kV SiC power semiconductors enable the realization of Solid-State Transformers (SSTs) featuring a supreme efficiency and power density compared to conventional MV-AC-to-400V-DC solutions.
